Text on this page CLICK TO EDIT

Open a PDF to detect text.

Text may be split into several pieces by the PDF. Edit one piece at a time. Scanned images need OCR.

Editor interface loaded. If tools stay disabled, open the published page; JavaScript may be blocked or delayed.
Quick guide: Edit PDF text → click a blue text area → type your replacement. Use the right panel to find small text. Select moves added content; the blue corner resizes it. Ctrl/Cmd+Z undoes; Shift+Ctrl/Cmd+Z redoes; Delete removes an object; arrow keys nudge it. PDF page rotation is applied to the download.
How text replacement and export work

This editor detects existing text and adds a background cover plus replacement text. It does not rewrite the original PDF text operators. Replacement fonts and colors are approximate and can be adjusted. Flat backgrounds work best; photos, patterns, overlapping text and complex typography may not match. Longer text does not reflow the surrounding document.

Pages containing replacements or whiteout are exported as new images, so their text is no longer selectable/searchable and their links are removed. This is not a certified secure-redaction tool. Other pages retain original content with flattened added marks, unless you choose Flatten all pages. Export quality is capped at 16 megapixels per page.

Drawn signatures are visual signatures, not certificate-based digital signatures. Encrypted PDFs, interactive forms and certificate-signed PDFs are not supported. Bookmarks, attachments and document-level features are not preserved. No OCR, original-font guarantee or PDF-to-Word conversion. No project autosave: download before closing. PDF libraries load from jsDelivr; this tool does not upload your PDF.

A little help before you start

Frequently asked questions

Is this online PDF editor free to use?

Yes. You can use the editor without a subscription. The current editor supports up to 100 pages and a total PDF upload size of 30 MB.

Can I edit existing text in a PDF?

You can select detected text and replace its visual appearance. The editor covers the original area and places replacement text over it. The affected page is exported as an image.

Can I edit text in a scanned PDF?

Scanned pages usually contain images rather than detectable text. OCR is not included, so scanned wording cannot be selected for replacement. You can still add text boxes and annotations.

Can I add a signature to my PDF?

Yes. Use Draw / Sign or upload a PNG or JPG signature image. This creates a visual signature, not a certificate-based digital signature.

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?

The editor code processes PDF contents in your browser tab rather than uploading them for editing. An internet connection is needed to load its PDF libraries.

Will my edits be saved automatically?

No. Changes remain in the current browser tab. Download your edited PDF before closing or refreshing the page.

Can I use the editor on my phone?

The editor includes a responsive layout and touch drawing support. For detailed text placement or larger documents, a desktop screen may be easier to use.

Does Whiteout permanently remove sensitive information?

Whiteout is intended for visual covering. It is not a certified secure-redaction feature. Use a dedicated redaction tool when removing confidential information.
